3 Temporary Home Remedies for Tooth Pain

Many who have experienced toothache swear that it is one of the most painful conditions. The cause of the toothache can be due to reasons like decay, presence of dental caries, having impacted wisdom tooth, etc. Whatever may be the cause, what happens if you are suddenly left to feel the sharp and deep tooth pain in the middle of the night? Here are three temporary home remedies that can be helpful until you visit your dentist.

Clove Oil for Toothache

Clove is quite popular in treating toothache. Its usage is known since ancient times. Just biting a piece of clove on to the tooth that is paining may give reasonable relief for temporary time as the juice from it percolates the pain area. Clove oil is also available in shops. If you luckily have them at home, take a pea-sized sterilized cotton, roll it as a mini ball, dip or soak it in clove oil and then place it directly in the tooth area from where pain is radiating.

Salt water gargling for Tooth Pain

Mixing common salt or table salt in warm water and then gargling with it can provide some amount of temporary relief to toothache. This might help only if the tooth ache is due to food lodged inside the area between the gum and the teeth. While gargling, make sure that the salt water touches the tooth that is experiencing the pain. Make sure to gargle 3-4 times so that you get the much needed relief from the pain. Take care not to ingest the salt water. Also massage gently in the area after salt water gargling. Though it is not toxic, ingesting excess salt can increase blood pressure for people with Hypertension or High BP.

Basic Pain Killers for Toothache

Sometimes basic painkillers like paracetamol, ibuprofen, etc that are available over the counter in any medical shop can address the toothache. If you are pregnant consult your doctor before taking any medications.
