8 Ways to Prevent Dental Cavities

Dental Cavities are a direct result of poor dental hygiene. The teeth area has to be protected against harmful germ (particularly harmful bacteria) buildup.

The moist oral area has a certain pH to be maintained. Not maintaining your oral hygiene can result in food particles sticking to your teeth and its crevices. The bacteria present in the mouth can thrive on them and can form a thin bio-film and that may eventually result in plaque buildup. The plaque build-up makes the oral environment acidic and may disturb the delicate pH balance. From here on the teeth starts deteriorating and it can lead to the formation of Dental Cavities.

However you can prevent Dental Cavities from happening. Here are 8 methods to prevent Dental Cavities.

  1. Rinse your mouth first thing in the morning after you get up from bed. No matter how much we brush, there is considerable germ buildup in our mouth after a full eight hours sleep.
  2. Rinse your mouth thoroughly every time after you have your meals or snacks. Whenever you eat sticky and sugary food, definitely rinse them twice so that you make sure that food particles do not stick to your teeth.
  3. Brush your teeth twice daily. Once in the morning and once before going to bed. There is no harm if we can brush our teeth gently every time after a meal.
  4. Gargle your mouth with mouthwash once a day. Even if you do not have mouth wash, water mixed with sea salt is an excellent natural mouthwash.
  5. Floss your teeth once a day. Make sure you floss in the night after your meals and before going to bed to derive maximum benefit.
  6. Ensure you have food rich in calcium. Food like Moringa, broccoli, and dairy products are high in calcium.
  7. Avoid sugary food as it is a known fact that more sugar in your diet can increase the rate of decay of your teeth.
  8. Ask your dentist about “Sealants”. Application of sealants can inhibit the formation of bio-films that are responsible for plaque build-up. This can prevent formation of Dental Cavities.
